Bewildering Beach Jewels

Ice blocks that break loose from the Breiðamerkurjökull - for those who don’t speak Icelandic: jökull means glacier - get washed out to the sea from Jökullsarlon, break up in the surf and end up on the beach. There they just melt away.

This is a strange and beautyful setting. The foaming waves from the ocean, the black sandy beach and the white-blue-ish ice. Mix in some morning light from the rising sun (the setting sun will do too) and you get the most amazing landscape. The light changes constantly, reflecting in the waves and the ice. The ice-cubes get thrown around by the waves and the rising tide. The first sunrays make the ice glow as gold.
